Kobe Bryant’s Special And Great Career Has Come To An End

Kobe Bryant decided to make the 2015 – 2016 season his last season. Which ends a great career that has brought basketball fans all around the world tremendous joy and amazement. He’s been a representation of greatness and excellence for 20 years and a special athlete who has used preparation and dedication to achieve his goal of becoming one of the greatest basketball players of all-time.  It’s sad and hard to believe that Kobe Bryant’s wonderful basketball career has ended. All we can do now as basketball fans is enjoy the memories and be thankful that we had the opportunity to witness the special skills and talents of a great athlete who dedicated himself to achieving greatness.

‘’With the number 13 pick in the NBA Draft, the Charlotte Hornets select Kobe Bryant”, these were the words said by former NBA commisioner David Stern during the 1996 NBA Draft. A 17 year old Kobe Bryant then walked up the stage to shake David Stern’s Hands, becoming one of the few to make the jump from high school to the pros. No one knew that this 17 year old kid who would later be traded to the Los Angeles Lakes during the 1996 NBA draft, would end up becoming one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. But one person did know that he was committed to becoming one of the all-time greats, that one person was Kobe himself. Kobe at a young age knew that greatness was a choice, he knew he would have to overcome a tremendous amount of adversity to become great, he knew he had to spend countless hours in the gym working on developing his skills, and he knew he ultimately had to become a master of his craft in order to achieve his goal. He committed himself to becoming great and was not going to settle for nothing less than excellence.

Kobe commenting on his dedication to achieving greatness:

“The most important thing is you must put everybody on notice that you’re here and you are for real. I’m not a player that is just going to come and go. I’m not a player that is going to make an All-Star team one time, two times. I’m here to be an all-time great. Once I made that commitment and said, ‘I want to be one of the greatest ever’, then the game became everything for me.” 

Kobe’s desire to be great created a journey of greatness that basketball fans had the opportunity to witness for 20 years. Admirers of Kobe’s great skills and abilities have had the opportunity to witness his greatest historical achievements and his most spectacular demonstrations of skill and athletic ability.

Kobe Bryant’s Historical Achievements Includes:

  • Scored 33,363 points, making him the third all-time leading scorer in NBA history
  • Named the Most Valuable Player during the 2007-2008 NBA Season
  • Won 5 NBA Championships
  • Is a 2-time NBA Finals MVP
  • Is a 2-time NBA scoring champion
  • Selected to be an All-Star 18 times during his career
  • Won 4 NBA All-Star Game MVPs
  • Selected to the All-NBA Team 15 times
  • Selected to the All-Defensive Team 12 times
  • Was the 1997 NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion

Then there is the spectacular 81 points he scored against the Toronto Raptors on January 22, 2006. The second most points scored in NBA history, that is only surpassed by the 100 Points scored by the great Wilt Chamberlin against the New York Knicks on March 1, 1962.


Kobe Bryant’s greatness has even drawn admiration from his peers who competed against Kobe for years. They respect his competitiveness, and embrace the reality that his dedication to be the best, and his will to win was second to none.

Kobe Bryant’s legacy is one that will always deserve adoration, continuous love, and tribute. He’s leaving the game of basketball knowing that he gave it his all. His tireless work ethic, competitive greatness, refusal to fail, desire to take on all challenges, and desire to create a legacy that competes with the all-time greats. Has become a legendary example that all who strive to be like Kobe, will have to embrace. Kobe has achieved his goal and is leaving the game of basketball as one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. And as a basketball fan who loves the game of basketball. I want to say thank you Kobe, you will be missed, and never forgotten.
